Minister of Food meets Ministry of Food
On Tuesday we were beyond thrilled to host and welcome the Minister of State for Food Security and Rural Affairs, Daniel Zeichner, to launch the Government’s ambitious new national food strategy, the Good Food Cycle.

This new vision for the food system aligns the whole of Government in pursuing ten priority outcomes which put people and planet at their heart:
- A food environment that supports healthier, more sustainable food sales
- Access for all to safe, affordable, healthy, and appealing options
- Conditions for the sector to grow, with investment and transparency
- A skilled, diverse workforce in every region
- Environmentally sustainable supply, high animal welfare, less waste
- Trade that supports sustainability and expands exports
- Resilient domestic production of healthy food
- Better preparedness for shocks and chronic risks
- Celebration of UK, regional, and local food cultures
- Stronger community connection to food, with skills and confidence to eat well
There has never before been such a need for joined-up thinking across health, economy, sustainability and supply, and it was great to hear such a willingness to do so.

The Minister chatted to our FoodSavers team about our the network of affordable food pantries, cookery school (where we delivery Jamie’s Ministry of Food cooking classes), wellbeing space and the forthcoming nourishing communities vouchers. It was great to share the impact our work is having with the team from Defra. The Minister also spoke with traders at the market, and our partners at the Council’s Living Well team, before introducing the Good Food Cycle strategy.
