24kg of garlic
For this year’s #selfcare week, we partnered with MyLivingWell to encourage people to swap their takeaways for a healthier and cheaper (but no less tasty) alternative.
The recipe parcels contained all the ingredients needed for a delicious takeaway, as well as instructions on how to make it. The parcels were distributed for free at our FoodSavers pantries, and at the Broadway, Kirkgate and Airedale Shopping Centres, and the Shipley Underground Market.
An amazing team of volunteers, many of them from Bradford Bronte Rotary club, gave a massive 140 volunteer hours: carrying, lifting, shifting and packing:
- 105 boxes of red peppers
- 50 boxes of yellow peppers
- 324kg of brown onions
- 324kg of red onions
- 240 boxes of curry jars
- 350 boxes of oil
- 4,200 packets of spices
- 60 cases of tinned tomatoes
- 233 packets of wraps
They also broke down 24kg of garlic bulbs and bagged up 6 large boxes of coriander – as well as recycling all of the waste.
A massive thank you to everybody who gave their time – we had some excellent feedback on the delicious meals people had enjoyed.
