Farewell Shaw House
Back in November 2019 we were offered the use of an empty building at the ‘top of town’. The building used to be the headquarters of Shaw Moisture Meters, and more recently the home of Bradford Brewery.
The newly-renamed Shaw House had a rocky start, with much of the preparation and fit out being conducted under varying levels of lock down and social distancing, but in the intervening six years we’ve grown the building into a thriving community hub, home to our social supermarket, cookery school and FoodSavers offices, as well as hosting the innovate Homeless Outreach Partnership (HOP) team.
However, Shaw House falls within the footprint of the new City Village redevelopment, and with preparatory works beginning soon, it is scheduled for demolition as part of the scheme. We’re therefore saying a fond farewell at the end of September.
twenty two Shaw House, our social supermarket, will open for the final time on 24th September, and we’re working with Oasis Academy Lister Park and Holme in the Wood to open two new pantries shortly.
Our FoodSavers Cookery School has already moved into the new Darley Street Market.
We’re very sad to be saying farewell to the HOP team, but we’ll continue to work closely with them in our shared vision to alleviate and eliminate homelessness in Bradford.
We’re really grateful to Shaw Moisture Meters, and latterly Hami Patel, who have been amazingly generous and supportive landlords, gifting us the use of the building for nearly six years. Thank you!
So long and thanks for all the fish, vegetables, bread, coffee and everything else that has passed through the doors.
