“Six emergency food parcels every minute”
For the first five months of lockdown we worked with the Council and Feeding Bradford & Keighley to provide food to 21 foodbanks around Bradford – including the three Trussell Trust foodbanks in Bradford.
New research from the Trussell Trust (carried out with Heriot Watt University) forecasts that 846,000 parcels will need to be provided by the network of Trussell Trust foodbanks from October to December 2020 – with an additional 670,000 people destitute (unable to afford essentials like housing, energy and food) by the end of the year.
Over half of people using Trussell Trust foodbanks at the start of the pandemic had never needed one before – and nearly three quarters lived with someone experiencing a mental health issue. Two fifths of households needing to use a foodbank were families (rather than individuals or couples).
You can read more about the research on the Trussell Trust website, as well as details of what they are campaigning for in the government’s Comprehensive Spending Review and Budget.
